About Dynamic DNS Cloudflare pfSense
Dynamic DNS assists with home-lab services by tracking our home network's external IP addresses. If we lack a static external IP address, dynamic DNS will allow us to associate a domain name with the external IP address. But even if our IP address is constantly changing, DDNS will still make sure that we are connected to the external IP address.
Fortunately, we can accomplish all of this by following the instructions provided by our Support Techs for configuring DDNS on pfSense via Cloudflare.
How to Configure Dynamic DNS with Cloudflare on pfSense
First, sign in to Cloudflare and select DNS.
Then click Add Record and choose Type A. We must also enter a name in the Name section and 1.1.1.1 and click Save.
Then, in pfSense, enter the Global API Key as the password. In Cloudflare, we can find the Global API Key under My Profile.
Then, next to the Global API Key, select View and enter the password.
This causes the API Token to be displayed. It is now time to copy the token and go to pfSense.
Then, under Services, select Dynamic DNS and then Add to add a new service.
Next, select Cloudflare as the Service Type. In addition, we must enter the subdomain and domain name.
Then, in the Username field, enter the Cloudflare username and paste the API token from the previous step. Finally, we must enter a description and click Save.
We can easily configure Dynamic DNS on pfSense using these simple steps.
