As a leading provider of server management services, our server engineers frequently receive inquiries about cPanel account issues. FTP connection timed-out error messages are a frequent request we've been receiving recently. The resolution of this issue is not difficult. In the majority of cases, we discovered that the absence of an FTP account in the cPanel account is the root cause.

This article describes how to create an FTP account in cPanel so that you can resolve the issue on your own. Before delving into the steps for creating an FTP account, let's discuss the necessity of FTP accounts.

Need for FTP accounts

The FTP accounts allow access to your web space and facilitate the management of website files. Your hosting service provider will generate a default FTP account. The account administrator has complete permission to manage and modify files and folders by their needs.

To publish a website online, an FTP account is required, as you are aware. This procedure involves uploading all related files to the location where you intend to host the server. FTP makes file transfer quick and simple because it can transfer multiple files simultaneously. The FTP client is how users connect to their respective hosts. Therefore, they require access permissions to the web server. In other words, your hosting service providers use FTP accounts to authorize client access to the server. Importantly, this secures the website and server by detecting and allowing only authorized web server access.

Each FTP account will have a unique username and password for accessing the website's files. In conjunction with the creation of an FTP account, the public html folder is also generated. This folder provides the account information necessary to upload or download files to or from the specified location. Generally, multiple FTP accounts can be created for a single website.

The Default FTP Account

By default, cPanel creates an FTP account with the same login credentials as cPanel. You can find the information for your default FTP account in VIPControl. To determine this, please follow the steps below:

  • Enter VIPContol by logging in.

  • My service is accessible at the page's top. Select cPanel Hosting by clicking it.

  • Choose the Manage tab that appears alongside the cPanel service.

  • The FTP details are located within the cPanel and FTP details. The password for your account is displayed by the eye icon next to the password.
